Default I have a question.....

I saw on the side of the page on here an auction site called swoopo????

I am unfamiliar with it, but I have been eyeballing the Nikon D90 for quite sometime now, a very expensive peice of equipment, and someone won one in an auction on there for somewhere around $16.00 US dollars?

The current bid on another one is somewhere around $27.00

How is that possible for a $1,300 camera??????
Is it in the US or elsewhere?

I would love to take a closer look at the sight, but would love to get some feedback from you all before I investigate further.

Thanks for any and all info you can give me about it.

Laura

Probably has a reserve, like ebay. The item won't actually sell unless the bidders bid up to a certain amount (the reserve amount).

They are penny bids so for every bid you put in you have to pay 75cets.

All of your suggestions are interesting scenerios.

How would I go about finding out if it was on the up and up?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the replies so far,

Laura

Avoid swoopo like the plague. You have to pay per bid, and the auction finishes when there are no bids for 20 seconds. Some people have been able to get bargains, but most (i.e. 99%) others end up paying several dollars for something they never win.

I looked into it when I wanted a nintendo wii, if anything sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Go look at the site by all means, but read the faq carefully, and then watch the bidding. Then you'll start to realise how much money people are spending on the bids.

It's like going to a casino, go in with your eyes open and money you're prepared to lose, but don't go in with $10 and expect to walk out with £10,000.

If it sounds to good to be true, then it usually is. Be careful and don't get suckered in.

I would definitely be leery of auction sites boasting high end equipment for extremely low pricing. I mean I've been burned more than once on seemingly good deals and I end up just cutting my losses. Sadly, you really can't get something for nothing (or next to nothing as this case may be).

Wait a minute here! You mean all those commercials that tell me they are going to let me in on the secrets credit card companies don't want me to know (or banks, or the rich, or the corporations) are all gimicks??

Man, what a let-down. I thought for sure I was on to something.

Darn!

My grandfather wisely said that the world is full of cheap deals and broken hearts...and the two groups are closely related.
