Okay so here is the deal. I have a special needs child who does not understand the word no and loves to bang his toys (and anything else) on the floor. Well our nurse let him get to my D80 and he went to town with it on our fireplace!! I bought it from wolf camera almost a year ago and did purchase the extended warranty / insurance. I called the nearest store and told them the situation and this woman said to just bring it in so they could look at it, ha! She went on to say they work wonders with broken cameras and I would be amazed at what they could do, and went on with I would probably get a D5000 for a replacement if Nikon could not repair it.
I stopped her right there and said that would be a downgrade from mine and she got really smart with me and said it would be a big upgrade. I don't think so. I called another store and they were much more understanding and told me to bring it in. So when I got there she couldn't believe how smashed it was and said the other girl was basically full of !%*$ and would think they would replace it with a D90 if anything but couldn't guarantee it though. So now I have been without my baby for over a week now and they say that Nikon still hasn't received it yet.

I'm so sorry to hear that and I hope it turns out well. I trust you've reinforced with the nurse which items are not allowed to be handled by the child.

You got mad at them about a downgrade when your kid was allowed to bash your camera to bits? Hmm... I'd consider even a downgrade lucky if they give it to you. I think that would be quite generous of them.
Most warranties don't cover 100% user error.

Agreed, you should really get nothing for "abuse". Consider yourself lucky with anything they give you.

I had to send my D90 back to Nikon because the shutter wasn't working right and they had it for about a month or so for something so minor, can't imagine how long they would have it for something like that!
Good luck |

What was your nurse thinking by handing your child the camera? I'd be looking for another nurse to replace the one your have.

Got insurance from Taylor and Taylor group on all my photographic gear. I don't worry about insurance add on's from All State, Farmers, Renters or all that home type of insurance. I just go to the folks that deal with photographic insurance, because there are no hassles when something is broken and needs repair or replacement,
