Default its not digi. but i hope some one can help.

hey guys. i have a photography assessment for school and we HAVE to take some Film shots and develop them and print and all that. so i borrowed my mates Film SLR and put a new set of batteries in it, and the LED lights that the manual says are supposed to come on don't. these lights are the light meter. i have put the batteries in both ways. still nothing.

The camera is a Pentax MV1.

do i need to have Film loaded in it for them to work? or is it broken? i need to know because this type of camera only has Auto shutter speed, so i can't take things into my own hands.

thanks.

Don't know the camera but I wouldn't have thought you needed film for it to power up. My old Olympus film camera was fully auto only but would fire fine without any film in it.

I have an old Nikon film SLR, and it works fine (will turn on and meter) without film in it.

Good luck.

Kind of a PITA workaround, but why not bring a digital P&S with you as a light meter?

thing is i can't choose the shutter speed... the camera does that according to the light meter... so i don't know how it is going to know what shutter speed to use..

in reference to your question re your camera auto meter
i have a pentax spotmatic its over 30yrs old got it the other
put a battery in it and its still as if it was brand new.
make sure your batteries are a life(2) make sure you have inserted
them correctly, you can see this by looking at the battery cover.
all the best.

Hate to say it, but give up on that camera and go rent/buy/borrow one with Manual and a shutter speed dial, and/or a working meter. Old film SLRs are cheap these days.

No experience with a Pentax but I believe MV-1 has a Mechanical shutter speed of 1/100s. Just select 100 between AUTO and B.

Without battery to power the meter, you can probably use the MV-1 as a SLR with a single shutter speed of 1/100s.

hahahaha, now you're gonna have to learn what it takes to be a real photographer by shooting film. Sometimes I miss the film days, photographers were photographers then, not now these days where as all you have to do to get a decent shot is point a dSLR on auto in the right direction.
