Default New Members vs. Senior Members...

No - I'm not suggesting any kind of face off. (although...)

I was just wondering what makes a 'New Member' new, a 'Senior Member' senior, and a 'Member' neither new nor senior. I've also seen members that are Super Zooms, Point and Shoots, and DSLRs...?

Can someone spill the beans... it's just one of those silly little inconsequential items that most people will ignore, but it's going to keep me awake at nights until I know I'm guessing it is linked either to number of posts, or membership duration?

Cheers
Grumby

It is based on the number of posts. It used to be DSLR, P&S then it changed a few months back to New Member, Member, Senior Member. Apparently people didn't like being labeled as a piece of equipment lol

Now you can sleep

Maybe I need to have my title fixed to say SR question asker LMAO

I would hate for someone to look at my puny attempts at photography and see I have 11,000 post ... it might not look good for DPS

Yeah, I've always found "ranks" to be kind of silly. My personal preference is for totally wacked out ones with no attached meanings. If I could be "Emperor of all Mankind" right now (soon to upgrade to "Polyester King") then I'd be quite happy.

lol. i'd have to agree. custom titles would be cool. they could always make certain titles not usable by the masses. i'd probably give myself the title of "knower of nothing".

Ha ha - I can think of a few that some people may wish to nominate for me but we'll skip those in the interests of good taste.

Praline - I think that there would be many contenders for a rank of 'Question asker', but one has to wonder whether the rank of SENIOR question asker should bestowed on someone that merely asks LOTS of questions, or someone that has progressed to the really deep profound questions like "is Canon better than Nikon?" (only kidding - of course we all know the answer to THAT one!!)

If I could nominate my own ranking it would be something like "has read a lot but lacks opportunity to put it into practice - or "all talk and no camera" for short (but that's about to change - when I get the use of a D40x for a few months - can't wait...

Cheers all

On the surf message board I've been on since 2003 they give certain members special titles. Mine was HARD for years, and they just changed it to "Ninja Armadillo Assassin" a couple weeks ago.

You wouldn't believe some of the titles they give the trolls.

This was before they switched over to vBulletin

Maybe designations should be given to avowed lurkers too.

I lurk on these forums (and a few others) so I can get new information, etc. I've found sometimes it's best for me to search the threads and forums to find answers to the questions I think I need to be asking.l I often find that I'm really asking the wrong questions, or find information that leads me down a new photographic path.

I really don't mind being "New Member" - it's better than Point and Shoot!
