Default new person trying to get better

Hi everyone! I recently became re-ignited in my life-long love for photography. I upgraded my camera, joined Flickr, and started posting and doing a whole lot more shooting. I picked up the fundamentals of photography (and B&W darkroom work) long ago, way before digital. Switched over to digital cameras about 8 years ago, and got pretty excited because I could once again do some photo processing, without needing a darkroom. But I need a lot more grounding in the basics.

You can find me on Flickr (username = "Delany Dean"). I have also posted a few photos on Zooomr, just to see how that forum works, and because I am always interested in seeing what other people really like (from among my photos); also, of course, for getting inspiration and ideas from the work of others.

I am neither a purist/hard-core-realist, nor a post-processing junkie. I'm always trying to produce something that is interesting, possibly beautiful, and that says: "that works!".

Welcome to DPS! Your story is very similar to mine. I got involved in photography in 1970 while I was in the Army when I bought my first SLR, a Pentax model. I've enjoyed photography and it has been a hobby of mine since then, but usually only brought the camera out on trips or special occasions. I had wanted a DSLR for a long time, and made the plunge last December when I bought a D40X.. Now I've jumped in with both feet and DPS has helped me a lot, so dive in and enjoy and learn.

Thanks, y'all! Wow I can't even figure out how to configure my signature or to do "quick reply"! I used to be a member of another forum (totally different subject matter) with the same format, but this is just a wee bit different.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to figuring out my way around. Am thinking about signing up for that online course. Any thoughts?

Hi Delaney and welcome to DPS. I see from your location that you are sometimes in my neck of the woods, Sanford, Florida. If you are serious about bettering your photography you should check out Crealde' Art Institute in Winter Park, Florida. They offer some great courses in photography. Once you get past the basics there are a lot of courses that are geared to the professional photographer. I just enrolled in two classes on lighting and I am really looking forward to when they start in a couple of weeks. Best of luck and happy shooting.
