My experience has been it's the members that make the club. Get in with a good bunch of enthusiastic people and it will be worth your while.

Some clubs will let you have a couple of free visits, sit through meetings, to see what goes on. That way you know what you're getting into before taking the plunge.

I'm sure if you contact them and ask, they'll be more than happy to invite you as a guest at first.

YMMV

I joined two here in Calgary. One I don't care to much for. The other, I met some good people, and had some fun. So would join.

I was going to join one in Alameda, California when we returned to Panama in 1995 and was informed to submit a 20 slide portfolio. A few days later I received a call from the membership chairman telling me that I could join, but could not participate in the club's photo contest. So......I turned them down.

...and Jim, I'd bet none of them are as successful as you are

I am a member of six photography clubs here in Florida. What I enjoy the most is learning with fellow hobbyists. It also pays to build your network.

Cheers!

My fiance and I joined the local camera club in Connecticut. There are some really talented photographers in this bunch (unfortunately, some are also Yankee fans ).

BTW, I'm originally from Boston, so you can understand my disdain for Yankee fans.
