Is there a way of changing my answer for the poll. I put candid but after giving it some thought I tend to shoot more posed subjects and particularly not many people (other then my girlfriend who is tired of me taking pictures of her :-)....) But I really like the look of good candid portraits. Though I can't say I take many of them and am not any good at them, I did just see a really awesome slideshow full of them at
http://langephoto.com/video/video_fl..._12_26_06.html Really a lot of inspirational shots! |

After looking at that slideshow, I would change my answer to. But I haven't been able to capture people with that must energy in a posed way.

If I want photos of people that are to be a good representation of that person or small number of people such a family posing is the only way to be sure of the results. If the phoitos are to be a representation of a party, picnic or other event then candid is better. Even with posed pictures there is a candid element to get natural expressions.

I'm doing a lot of newspaper work, so posed isn't really an option. I have done some studio/headshot work for friends, but I find it difficult to direct them. Not really my cup of tea.

I vastly prefer Candids.. just seems more real, better emotions and reactions to things.

I prefer to shoot candids. That being said I do have many shots of my daughter that are posed, but it seems that the best smiles and facial expressions are in the candid shots.

I prefer to shoot candid shots. I feel that you are capturing the true image of a person and their personality with a candid shot. That said I do have one problem with candid photos. I feel guilty if I take someones photo without their permission. It is almost a violation of their privacy if I shot first and ask permission after. If you ask first then it isn't candid. I think this could be a good question for a future poll. Do you need to ask someones permission to shot a photo of them?
