We are going to Disney and I do have a laptop I COULD download the images to ..but... well its not the *best plan for me*
Its hubby's laptop and all of my photo software is on my very good desktop here at the house. It will be a pain to burn the disks to work the photos on my home pc... I would much rather just wait to get home to download all the photos from their cards... WITH THAT SAID ... how many gigs would you go through on a Disney trip with your family? 10 days My g10 gets 1300 (superfine) JPEG shots and about 380 RAW images per 8gb card. I do want to get some ride photos with my kids riding some of the outdoor coasters and water rides (I have a waterproof case) these will be in Jpeg but I will have to take a BUNCH to get that one perfect shot lol As we will have a castle view at our resort .. I do want to attempt some fieworks shots (I have a tripod and just got a remote shutter release) I will for sure use RAW for this. We do have several character meals planned. As the lighting isnt that great in them I am planning on shooting in RAW as well. My plan is to try and shoot RAW indoors and JPEG outdoors to help save on space. After all of that ~ how many GB's would you bring with you to Disney?

I shoot "medium" quality jpegs almost 100% of the time, unless I have a really compelling reason to shoot raw. I never shoot "fine" quality jpegs -- there is really no visible difference. So, even shooting gadzillions of photos per day, I'd survive quite well on an 8 GB card.

WOW! I guess I should mention I have a little princess in training
![]() I could easily drop 8gb of space in a day LMAO but I am trying to conserve my space. I also will be shooting in RAW with all indoor shots and bad weather shots. Disney has soooo much for the little princesses ~ its just too much for any red blooded American mommy can handle! With the character meals ~ its usually 5 characters more or less at the meal... I figure I would take 5-10 photos per character with each of the kids and a few candid shots (they always come out the BEST) so just for one character meal that would be 25-50 shots.

Is this purely a photo trip, or are you also planning to enjoy the park?
![]() If you're planning on actually enjoying the park, you'll be spending a lot of time standing in lines. Not much photo opportunity there. It's your call, really. How many shots an hour do you really expect to be taking? And how many hours a day do you expect to be in photogenic spots that are different from before? Two things to keep in mind: 1) Memory is dirt cheap, especially compared with what 10 days at Disney costs for an entire family, so stocking up isn't a big deal. 2) On the other hand, they sell memory cards at Disney. And in the surrounding areas, too (you didn't say which Disney, so I'm having to be vague). If you start running short, you can always buy more memory cards. It's not like you're going on safari into darkest Africa.

Maybe it might be a bit much, but with the price of chips going way down you almost might want to consider 32GB or more. I'm a huge fan of redundancy, so I love making sure I have spare parts for as many things as possible. What I would do in this situation would be to take a few photos (like several of one child on a ride or something) then swap out the chip so that you don't "put all your eggs in one basket". Everyone's good buddy murphy probably hangs out at Disney too, so it never hurts to be prepared.
Thats just my two cents. I'd rather spend a little extra on more memory now than risk having something go wrong, or miss a shot due to no more space. Hope your trip goes awesome!

Thanks for the advice everyone!
This is half photo trip half enjoy the family lol When the kids get to me I can always bury my nose in my camera ![]() Seriously ... we are planning to be there at park opening most mornings and leaving by 1pm due to the heat and crowds! So from 1pm until dinner time is *free* for photos and wandering the resorts. We are staying at a really pretty resort and hell just about EVERYTHING is photogenic at Disney LOL I am going to feel like a teenage boy in the playboy mansion with my new camera at Disney World (the one in FL)

What i do for any trip away is take three 16gig cards and my portable harddrive, great way to keep the luggage to a minimum. Then i just back up each night..
