As cheap as the CF cards these days I'd get them. Personally I have (5) 8 gig, (15) 4 gig and (10) 2 gig cards and two external portable Western DIgital 170 and 250 Gig hard drives. You can get them pretty cheap on Amazon.

I'm not sure how RAW files work. I am a beginner to photography, so I am just sticking with jpeg for now until I get comfortable with taking pictures ... then I can hone my CS3 skills.

I was saying the same exact thing LAST WEEK~~~~ then I tried RAW and I am sooooo hooked ~ really I don't even want to shoot JPEG any more LOL

I got some software that came with my camera that I can edit RAW images before converting them...its SOOO easy and I am a total camera doofus! You can totally change the white balance and lighting along with the sharpness WITHOUT losing the realism of the photo!
I can turn day into night ~ it has a real God feeling about it
I am LOVING Raw files! You should try it ...errr maybe not or you might get hooked and have to figure out ways to store 16meg pics lol

I was reading the post and about to comment about shooting in RAW just in case you get a good shot you want to work with later when you least expect, if you're always in RAW, you don't have to worry about forgetting. But I see you've been converted already so I wont bother

As far as moving RAW files goes - you can move then around your computers, cards and hard drives as much as you like just like any other file. What you can't do is look at any of them without appropriate software.

And you know you'll want to have a peek in the evenings!

I'd just install the software you're using on the PC for the trip and then remove it when you get home.

Other option if you are running short of memory on a trip & you don't have any extn storage, is to go into a photo store & get the card burned to disk - format the card & off you go again!

One thing that I do on trips is delete the pictures that aren't good at the end of the day. You might be able to find a cable that can connect the camera to a TV so that you can view the images on a big screen. I'm not familiar with the G10 personally but it should be able to do that. Then look them over show them off to the family and all that. I looked up the camera review on DPReview and it said that you can store about 47 raw images per gig. So 16 GB would be 752. I would say if you are thinking you will shoot more than 700 "keepers" to get a few 2 GB cards or an additional 16 GB card.

On my Honeymoon (6 days) Jen and I took 630 pictures I deleted the ones I didn't like because they were blurry, had motion where I didn't want it, or the image just didn't come out good and got that down to 541 images and in all honesty have used (printed, shown to friends, made slide shows, used in digital frames) about 100 of them. I'm not saying be frugal with the picture taking just delete the ones that you don't want.

Mmm, I just went away for four days, shooting in raw. I only took 4 gigs of SD cards with me, but I took my laptop and did a card dump onto my harddrive every night... so, not sure I can really help you. But, do take lots!

Last year, my fiance and I did 8 days of shooting in California, and I shot 16 gig of photos. I brought my laptop, and downloaded my cards every night. I had about 20 gig of free space available on my laptop, and between the two of us, we filled that up before the trip ended.

I would figure between 2-4 gig of photos per day that you would shoot. Get a lot of extra memory cards, they are inexpensive now.

Do you have the option of getting a portable photo storage deal? That way it doesnt matter how mnany gigs and when you get home, just hook it up to your pc via usb and you have it made.
That or get yourself another card

That's what I ended up doing. I got an external hard drive with 400gb.
We tested the laptop with a small jump drive we had and all we do is move the files from the card (laptop has a card reader installed) to the external hard drive and we are good to go! I don't see my going over 400gb but you never know LMAO it is a new camera!

I know I am going to take a ton of photos! It seems everywhere you turn at Disney there is something interesting to photograph! We are staying at a beautiful resort as well. This is really going to max out my photos LOL

I want to try and not go through the review and delete phase until I get home. I obviously will delete ones that stand out like a sore thumb but I really don't want to take an hour out of my time going through the photos while I am on vacation.

I looked into that and it seems for Disney to do this for me it cost an arm and a leg! Last year I spent $20 on 2 AA batteries in the park as my batteries went dead and I didn't want to go back to the resort to get the set I left
