As cheap as the CF cards these days I'd get them. Personally I have (5) 8 gig, (15) 4 gig and (10) 2 gig cards and two external portable Western DIgital 170 and 250 Gig hard drives. You can get them pretty cheap on Amazon.

I'm not sure how RAW files work. I am a beginner to photography, so I am just sticking with jpeg for now until I get comfortable with taking pictures ... then I can hone my CS3 skills.

I got some software that came with my camera that I can edit RAW images before converting them...its SOOO easy and I am a total camera doofus! You can totally change the white balance and lighting along with the sharpness WITHOUT losing the realism of the photo! I can turn day into night ~ it has a real God feeling about it ![]() I am LOVING Raw files! You should try it ...errr maybe not or you might get hooked and have to figure out ways to store 16meg pics lol

I was reading the post and about to comment about shooting in RAW just in case you get a good shot you want to work with later when you least expect, if you're always in RAW, you don't have to worry about forgetting. But I see you've been converted already so I wont bother
![]() As far as moving RAW files goes - you can move then around your computers, cards and hard drives as much as you like just like any other file. What you can't do is look at any of them without appropriate software. And you know you'll want to have a peek in the evenings! I'd just install the software you're using on the PC for the trip and then remove it when you get home.

Mmm, I just went away for four days, shooting in raw. I only took 4 gigs of SD cards with me, but I took my laptop and did a card dump onto my harddrive every night... so, not sure I can really help you. But, do take lots!

Last year, my fiance and I did 8 days of shooting in California, and I shot 16 gig of photos. I brought my laptop, and downloaded my cards every night. I had about 20 gig of free space available on my laptop, and between the two of us, we filled that up before the trip ended.
I would figure between 2-4 gig of photos per day that you would shoot. Get a lot of extra memory cards, they are inexpensive now. |

Do you have the option of getting a portable photo storage deal? That way it doesnt matter how mnany gigs and when you get home, just hook it up to your pc via usb and you have it made.
That or get yourself another card

We tested the laptop with a small jump drive we had and all we do is move the files from the card (laptop has a card reader installed) to the external hard drive and we are good to go! I don't see my going over 400gb but you never know LMAO it is a new camera! Quote:
