Default cool photo project with my kids ~ could use some ideas

Good morning!

I have been playing around with an idea for a photo project to do with my 3 lovely angels. I want to make a sort of collage of their favorite items CURRENTLY ... and lay them out in a sort of fun way and photograph them to put in their scrapbooks. The kids won't be in the photos ~ just a still life collection of those certain special items that are CURRENTLY important to them. The photo (s) would kind of represent their personalities and what is (object wise) most important to them. Am I making sense?

Example would be my daughter's favorite teddy bear, her new red converse high top sneakers she bought with her own money, her Jonas Brothers poster... if I can display these type of items in a cool background ..err.. well not just lumped on a table and photographed LOL I think they would be WAY cool for them to look back on as adults.

I got the idea when my husband and I were looking through our own baby books. There were a few toys (lost in time) that we had both fond memories of. Of course these were old blurry (but hey at least they were in color) snapshots.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to do something like this? Has anyone attempted it before? If so I would love to see how you worked a collage of "priceless child junk" to make it look photogenic LOL

Hi,

Sounds like a pretty cool idea!

I would take the photos, then make a movie outta them. With windows movie maker or power director. So not only will you have the photos, but in a video format.

I might do this project for myself and family, great idea!

I thought of that but I want 1 photo with all of their MOST important *treasures*. That way I can add it to their scrapbooks. I think its going to be a fun project to start when they are out of school for the summer.
I am going to have them pick the items ALL BY THEMSELVES ~ it should make things *interesting* LOL

The fun part will be displaying them in a photogenic composition eye pleasing way ... all with clashing items and colors and ...well child treasures

Why not involve the kids and have them help in the composition? If it is for their scrapbooks, then having them involved makes it even more personal and special to them.

Or let them set the items, and you give suggestions on composition. You may be surprised at what they come up with, and how well it is composed without knowing the "rules".

If you have PS you could do a collage type of shot for each child, put their names and the dates on it

I love your idea! Try using different, but simple backgrounds and different arrangements of the items. Here's one I did as a keepsake for my daughter, for example.

Sweet Memories

I think your idea is positively great! My two boys are grown up now (32 & 34) and I think about the different stages of their lives and what was important to them at the time. It tells a wonderful story and is something to be cherished. We lived in the same house for 30 years. I would go to plant something near the sandbox and dig up an old matchbox car or some other type of toy and it would take me right back to that time in their lives. Great idea! I think I need to use it for my grandchildren.....if I ever get any!

Susan ~ I love your baby shoe
but errr all I could think of was with my 2 sasquawatch (sp on that one) that I call boys ... I would need a super wide lens to get their shoes ~ might even have to do a stitch

But that is kind of what I am getting at. Arranging their special items in a photogenic way and making them pretty. If they come out nice enough I wouldn't mind having them framed and placed in their room (when they get old enough where I can give them the boot he he) that way if I ever get the empty nest thing I can go in there and get my empty nest fix
