This might be a live and learn question, but is there a way to stop someone from swiping your pics on facebook - do I need to start putting a watermark on stuff...

Do you have the security features set?
If you click to see a list of your albums you should see a link that says album privacy. You can set it to custom and block anyone you need to ... this doesn't prevent first go around stealing BUT if you find out you can block that person from viewing your photos at least.

In general, no. I assume you don't want to restrict who can view your albums, but that would be a way to reduce your risk.
On facebook, you can afford to post VERY low resolution copies... that may be your best bet.

Well, they took it and put the photo as their FB photo, that's how I saw it, I sent her an email and told her she had to pay for the digital image, and she did...but wonder who else have been borrowing by mistake...
Horrible feeling...

Nothing you can do other than restricting who can view your photos.
I only ever put photos of friends etc on facebook so if they use them for there profile pic I'm not that bothered. If I was using it for business I would set up a separate profile, maybe one of the business type ones so people could become a fan rather than a friend. Any photos I posted, either as examples of my work or as an online portfolio easiliy accessable to teens, would have a large watermark slapped all over it. (The default resolution on facebook can easiliy be printed at 6x4) |

I have a facebook business-fan page set up for my business. The only photos I ever post are taken straight from flickr's "small" size, which is big enough for someone's profile pic, but not big enough to use for anything else. It is essentially impossible to avoid people using your photos as profile pics -- I have just taken to thinking of it as a form of flattery. I do offer a digital download in "iPhone Background" size... no takers for it, though.

Everything I post and care about has a watermark on it, some people might think of it as overboard and others "so what does he/she think they are a pro and people will want the images"..I use the watermark to point back to where I sell my images online as well

I don't know if it was changed or what not, but I think that recently facebook changed the TOS to say that they own all pictures uplaoded.
I'm not a serious facebook user, so I don't really pay much attention to things on there. I just use the site to keep in touch with friends (such as my buddy in baghdad). I hope I am wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure the TOS say that whatever you uplaod to FB they own.
