There's an affliction I witnessed countless times in school, and while working too long in tech support. Some people can only comprehend information if it is directed at them personally. Search is useless for people with such a disorder.
Is this such a bad thing, that someone would prefer to get information from a conversation with someone rather than an list of websites? Is it bad to prefer interpersonal communication to efficiency? Just sayin'....

Interpersonal communication is fine, but this is the internet. In what way are these two things different?

I have a question, come to DPS and post the question, then have other members of the forum respond directly to me.

Or...

I have a question, come to DPS and search for my question, see that someone else has recently asked the exact same thing, then I read the responses to the other posters question.

Are the responses in the first scenario, more appropriate or more personal?

And this is a discussion forum, where people come when they don't want to or know how to use a search engine.

Look, it's a great list. I think it will be very useful to many people. I just don't like it when people start ragging on others who don't know how to use Google. Some people's brains just work differently. They don't think in terms of keywords and searchable terms. Just cut 'em some slack

It's so easy even a caveman can do a google search....... all you have to do is type in your question.

Well, I disagree to some extent...if you can type the question here, you can type it into a search engine...

HOWEVER;
I do see a major advantage to asking such questions here as opposed to a search engine....much of what you find online is single perspective...no discussion, just "I say so". Here you will get a discussion on the topic (or hijacked).

I also have to say I do not like the search function on here...Maybe I just have not worked with it enough, but I get tons or very marginally related (if at all) returns...

An index of previous "common discussions" seems like a good solution. Get the collection together and list it as a sticky FAQ post would be my recommendation.

And just to show that I'm not against that spirit of the post, how about the ever-present "To UV or not to UV" discussion. Sorry, too lazy to look up links.
