Offhand, Ansel Adams. His pictures first got me interested in photography years ago. I also like Annie Leibovitz. I just bought her book and it is wonderful to look at.

It seems the people replying like a style of a particular photographer and try to emulate that. I think that's more how I am. I don't think I was ever directed into photography from seeing a work and liking it, for me it was more of my own "journey of discovery" as it were. I seem to admire art and how things come out and just work. Some things that are technically perfect don't inspire me (read: anything played by Kenny G.) they just don't seem to have the character or soul. I tend to be inspired by perspectives of things and how they look to me. Most of the time I think to myself that I could improve on that, or find ways that I think it would look better to me. Of course in that I'm one of my own biggest critics.
I think photographers that inspire me are the new ones, seeing what their minds eye sees and getting a new focus on my own pictures from that.
I suppose otherwise this is more of a what that inspires me rather than a who but you get the idea.

Chris Weeks
official site - A professional from LA, who still manages to make some amazing street photographs. I admire him, even if he does like his Leica a little too much.

I've never really been a fan of Adams. I know he is a sort of demi-god figure in photography, but...

Just a few years ago when photography was the furthest thing in my mind, I was called by the Cedar Rapids Art Museum (in Iowa) to organize a corps of volunteers for the Grand Opening of an exhibit. I was still a college student at the time and had no idea who this Ansel Adams guy was, let alone know how in the world a Museum got my name.

Upon mentioning it to some people, I instantly garnered enough interest to supply quite a few volunteers. They had us show up early so that we'd have a chance to look at all the photographs. The collection was probably about 150 large pictures in size, if not more. All I remember thinking was, "How boring. They are all black and white."

Hindsight, being what it is, I sure do kick myself now for not taking advantage of the precious opportunity that came kicking me in the head. The people that were there, paid huge $$ to come to that catered black tie affair and there I was, not even giving the photos a second look.

Flickr. Seriously, I see everything imaginable and then more stuff I might NEVER have imagined. My eye is less sharp than my imagination wants to be, so, like food, I crave variety.

Also most anyone who ever worked for Life magazine.
