Default Shooting gloomy

The skies have been gloomy for the past couple of weeks here in Dallas and I'm sick of waiting for a nice day to shoot some portraits of my wife and 9 month old.

So instead of waiting..I'd figure this is a great time to test everything i know about PP. I figure if i can pull off a nice shoot in gloomy weather. I can surely do it on a nice day.

Can anyone recommend any techniques while onsite that will help with the lighting? I do have a portable 36" shoot thru umbrella with a SB800 that i plan on bringing

Or how about tips in PP that will take away some of the gloom in the clouds.?

THanks

Actually, cloudy, overcast days are great for shooting outdoor portraits. This one was shot on such a day (it was even slightly drizzling), just using a reflector: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3304/...e2d7fa1e_b.jpg

I agree with SusanH on the gloomy day shoots. Colors seem to be more rich and more even light. I curse the noon day sun! Unles I'm without camera. ; )

Yep. It's hard to get washed out colors and blown out highlights on cloudy days.
