Question Resizing in Capture NX2

I can't figure out how to size my photos so they aren't cropped and cut off in printing or with the white border. The worst is in 8x10 size. I have gone to the edit button and clicked on resize in Capture NX2 but I think that I'm doing something wrong. It doesn't make sense to me that I can't choose the size that I want. I can put 8" or 10" in either of the height or width boxes but then the other box automatically calculates to a size that I don't want. I have tried this with both my RAW photo and a photo post production that has been cropped exactly as I want it. Can you help?

Thank you,
Joanna

Your Nikon captures photos in the 2:3 ratio, meaning that their "native" size has sides which are multiples of those: you can print in 4x6, 6x9, 8x12, etc. sizes without cropping. That's what Capture NX2 is doing -- when you choose one side's size, it automatically selects the other so that you keep the same ratio.

I don't think "Resize" is what you want to do -- I'd use a cropping tool instead. In any case, look for something which indicates whether your side lengths are "linked" or not -- meaning, a checkbox or button (often looks like a chain link) which you can check to force the program to keep things in the correct aspect ratio. If you can find this, you want it UNchecked (or set to the link broken icon).
