Right now, its mostly Auto Focus. I've tried using the Manual Focus with my 18-55mm kit lens, and it doesnt give me the results I want. If I have my lens set to frame something exactly the way I want, usually I've pre-focused anyways, so by the time I hit the shutter, everything is where I want it to be within the frame.

Not to mention that my D3100 has 11 auto focusing points,...and I can select which point I want to use to set the Auto Focus on. I'm not sure about other cameras,..and whether or not they do the same, but that was a selling point for me. It also has this sort of tracking mode for action shots,.. where the focus points will change according to where the subject is within the frame.

I'm still learning,... but I tend to pick up on things that I'm interested in kinda quick.

I also love the fact that when using MF I don't have to re-focus for the same shot. It saves so much more time.
