Default Another buying question

Ok, I have another q for you all. I have decided on the D60 for my choice in camera and I am learning about buying as a kit and then buyong as lens and body seperately. What I am having a hard time understanding really is the extras.

I keep running into macro lenses and then telephoto lenses and then the ones that that say both...so how do I know what to get? I am going with the 18-55 and the 55-200mm VR lense. Which in my mind I am starting to refer to as basic. Is there a guide somewhere that is easy to understand the differences between these lense? (and perhaps something that mentions how to buy a filter...cause if I have enough after I get my camera I need a skylight and circular polarizer filter....)

You guys Rock....thanks for all the patience with me and my questins. I found one site that helped a bit, photo4less.com anyone ever use them? prices seem good, but I don;t want to get ripped off. TY again Ri

Download Nikon lens brochure http://chsvimg.nikon.com/products/im...lenses_36p.pdf and look for Micro-Nikkon lens. You need AF-S lens to get auto-focus with your D60. However, many people prefer manual focusing for macros.

True Macro lens allow 1:1 magnification while Nikon refers to its collection as Micro lenses.

Often you see third parties macro zoom lenses (e.g.,Sigma) that just imply closer focusing (around 1:4 instead of 1:1) but still a bonus feature.

Some photographers use UV filter to protect the front element of their lenses. Hoya and Tiffen filters are good enough for consumer lenses. You can consider B+W, Rodenstock or other premium filters for $$K lenses later.

Thanks Love, This is the kind of info I needed! There seem to be a lot of nice deals out there, once you start understanding what you are looking for that is.

One last question that I have that I have run across. When going with Tameron (sp) and Sigma lenses for the nikon will I need a special adapter or mount bracket? I know my old fm 10 film camera was interchangeable with an olympious lens, wondering if that was the same here.

Back in the old days, Tamron used an adapter (Adaptall system) to fit their SP lenses to various camera mounts.
With DSLR, just look for Nikon mount Sigma (you need HSM for D60), Tamron and Tokina lenses.

Before you buy anything online, use http://www.resellerratings.com to check them out first.

Love, thanks for that link! It ends up that there are more people unhappy with photo4less.com then happy. After looking over the reviews I figured out I was safer in the long run buying from ebay then them! Crazy...but at least ebay there is insurance.

And thanks for the guide. I saved it to my comp so I can read it at leasure. I feel like an information junkie right now...cant get enough. Hope you are having a great weekend. Huggs and many thanks Ri
