Facebook alters your photos when you upload them, compressing the colour space to save server space. This makes the images much smaller file-size, allowing for faster display and more photos to be stored on the server. This is unavoidable with Facebook. I have some pictures of a friend I did: she's using one as a profile picture, and there are sections that are close to being blown out, but arent, and theyve gone to a grey colour. Same with near-blacks. You'll even see a change just by displaying a picture in a browser as opposed to, say, Photoshop or Lightroom. This is because the browser is pulling as little ressources as possible so that it can run multiple things (scripts, tabs, etc) at the same time and not turn your PC into a smouldering pile of plastic.
