Default A mistake?

I recently acquired a Canon Powershot S2 IS camera, and now I'm starting to wonder if it was a mistake. I wish now that I had saved up and got a DSLR with the money, and then maybe investing in a small camera. But as it is, it's not as nice as a big camera, but it's still too big to carry around everywhere.
Not to say that it isn't a nice camera, which it is. I just wish I had waited a bit.
After debating this with myself for a while, I decided I'd like to have someone else's opinion.
Tell me what you think,

-Sam

it depends on what you needs are. No one can really say oh you should have waited for the dSLR or say no the S2 is the right camera for you. If the S2 gets you the shots that you want to get then it is fine. If you find yourself wanting to do more than what the S2 is capable of doing then you should have gone with a dSLR. Dont worry about what all a dSLR can do that the S2 doesn't unless you actually want to use those capabilities.

Some people swear by super zoom cameras as they are so versatile. They normally have lots of manual controls, are able to shoot macros and have a wide focal range, can shoot movies etc. However they suffer vs a DSLR on image quality, high ISO useability, control of DoF and upgrade ability. To get what you have in an S2 would cost thousands if you went the DSLR route but when you do get everything it will be a lot better.

My choice, the DSLR, but you shouldn't underestimate the cost of the system, even if you can pick up a D40 for a few hundred.

Don't worry about it. I still frequently use my Olympus P&S. I carry it whenever I'm not carrying the DSLR, sometimes I carry both.
