Question Newbie - How do I know if a lense will fit my camera?

I recently bought my first DSLR - A Canon Rebel XSI. There's a Canon lense for sale on an auction site and I'm wondering if it will fit my Rebel. Does any Canon lense fit any Canon camera? Sorry I don't have alot of detail of the lense. There is a picture of the lense. I can see f=205mm MACRO. There's no description on the site. Help!

The lens will need to use the Canon EF or EF-S mount in order to be compatible with your camera. They do also make lens mount adapters but I don't have any experience with these. What is the link to the auction?

I wouldn't want to get a lens that's sold as is. There are so many things that can go wrong with a lens.

Looking again at the pictures of the lense, I don't believe it is an EF lense. I'm going to pass. Thanks for your help.

Yeah that's probably the old FD mount. Any time you see a manual focus Canon lens, you can be pretty sure it won't fit your camera without an adapter. All of the EF and EF-S lenses are autofocus lenses (that was kind of the whole point of the new mount anyway).
