Default Knee Pads for Photography

I have been shooting Little League Baseball games lately and realize that kneeling on my camera backpack is just not cutting it and could really use a nice pair of knee pads. If anyone out there could recommend a good comfortable pair of knee pads I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Baddsports

Maybe you should look for those plastic kneepads that people involved in Urban Search and Rescue use? They might be ideal!

The kind of surface you are going to be on coupled with the frequency of use will kind of dictate what you want to buy.

Home Depot and Lowes carry a good supply of knee pads. However if you are wanting a larger selection of colors and styles. Try Lab Safety Supply, or McMaster-Carr Both I know are VERY reputable in business practice as I've ordered hundreds of thousands of dollars of things from them. They can cost a little more, but the quality tends to be higher.

I use the ones with the white plastic caps on the outside of them. They are fairly comfortable. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes.

My only requirement is that they attach comfortably/securely with a SINGLE strap. (Mcmaster has some gell filled ones like this that are quite nice) I find that when you get up/down frequently it makes them MUCH more comfortable.

Something MilSpec (Military Spec) will likely be best.

I'm looking at a few things based on experiences borrowing other people's stuff. A pair of good MilSpec winter gloves that arent bulky but will keep my hands warm, and a set of tactical kneepads (a la SWAT).

Remember, anything designed for military or police use is going to be designed to take a beating.

McMaster-Carr would fit this bill. So would Lab Safety Supply (LSS). I'm military, and purchase all kinds of gear for our unit. .

On the gloves to keep a person warm. If you are operating in anything above 40F you can use some Mechanics style gloves and line them with a wool insert.

If you are shooting below that temperature it would require a different glove insert combination to keep the digits warm enough to have any kind of dexterity. Only reason I know this crap is I've had to suffer through it and work at the same time. This is what worked best for me, and I've got poor circulation in my extremities.

Hope this helps.

Home Depot. Soft, flexable, padded rubber knee pads.
Construction workers aren't really all THAT tough. ; )
