An SX10is has a range of 28-560. Getting to 600mm is going to cost you several thousand dollars in high-end gear, even if you "cheat" with a 300mm and TC.
If youre really obsessed with the range, than theres no real better bang-for-the-buck than the SX10is.. provided you can live with the image quality. An XSI would give you MUCH better image quality at the more often used focal lengths (the 28-200 range). Even with just a 18-200 or similar you'd have just about everything covered. I'd suggest an XSi or similar over the SX10is, but if you really want that zoom range i wont stop you.
