Default Travelling to Greece

Hi,

In the summer I will be travelling to Greece (Argassi in Zakynthos to be exact) for a spot of relaxation and travel photography.

While I am over I would like to see what I like to call the 'real Greece', not the tourist places, the little villages and towns where people are going about their usual business.

So the question is, does anyone know of any tour guides in the area or done a similar thing in another country and could share any tips?

Thanks in advance!

That is good advice, thanks for that!

One thing I should have mentioned, know my way around the place Argassi, been a few times before. I'm just not sure if going into the hills is the best idea without someone who knows the area.

Yup, done the mainland before, this is an island, and although the mainland isn't far away it's quite hard to get to. Although that's why I'm around for 2 weeks

My experience is "guides" generally know the "attractions", not much good for "the real". In fact, In China the guides were somewhat focused on keeping you away from the "behind the scenes" world.
Just getting "lost" and wandering worked quite well, but the language barrier was almost impossible.... and I was a bit worried in some situations....

True, I just normally research the location before I go and sort of strike out on my own. Makes it that much more rewarding and interesting.

I can't think why but thats not really for discussion here is it!

I think you are right Jim, I have been to places before and not had guides or anything so I think a couple of trips to the local library may be helpful.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
