Default Dark monitor.

My monitor is way too dark! It is very frustrating when it comes to viewing any images.

I've had this problem forever (with my current monitor anyways...)

Actually I've asked this before at a few different places, but never actually solved the problem. I figure if anyone can help me it will be the DPS forum

Granted it's a cheap old bulky monitor, but why does it display everything so dark? I have the brightness settings and contrast on full. It is fine for browsing the web, forums, documents etc... but when it comes to viewing images it is just plain horrible.

Any ideas?

(I should probably just buy a new monitor, but would rather save the money for more important things. Like my first SLR camera)

Your monitor is dying a slow death. I felt sad when I learned my monitor was dying and I couldn't afford a new one, so I know the feeling and why one would be reluctant to just let it go.

If you go to NewEgg.com (assuming your in the States) you can pick up a good 19" LCD for around $120 shipped. The Acer X193W+BD for example is a good monitor. I've got the X193W and I've been thoroughly impressed with it.

Oh, a sad day indeed.

This may not be the place for such a morally charged debate, but what are your thoughts on assisting a beloved monitor in a dignified death?
She has been sick for a long time now, and getting worse as the days pass. I just hate to see her like this. I believe she would want to leave this earth on her own terms.

I'm not in the States unfortunately. But my brother knows where to buy cheap LCD monitors.

It just feels too soon to be moving on...

Normally I'd suggest sending her to a recycling program, but I don't know if you've got any thing like that in your area.

find out if you do: CRT monitors have all sorts of sensitive stuff that can either be recycled or that need to be dealt with appropriately.

Maybe it is a good time to experiment with a dual monitor set up? In many situations that can be a real boon to getting things done easily rather than constantly having to switch between different windows. It sounds like you probably do need a new monitor but, while the old one still works for some purposes, you would benefit with one with brighter colours for graphics work.

That's a great idea Wulf.
I have always wanted a dual monitor setup, but could never really justify it. Guess I'll have to increase my productivity too

I'm getting a little depressed. There's so much new gear I would love to buy, but just can't afford.

Wish-List:
- First DSLR camera and lens(es)
- Macbook Pro
- New LCD monitor (and full PC upgrade)
(Maybe I should just opt for a complete Mac desktop setup while I'm dreaming)
- Ferrari (why the hell not 'ey?)
