For years I've wanted to take photo's and play with it and get good. I'd be thrilled if some of my photo's people actually wanted a good sized framed copy of. I'd be soo honored. (But then, I love it when my written stories are well received, so I am sure everyone here knows what I'm talking about.)
Mainly right now, my focus is taking photo memories of my kids, and birds and small wildlife. But, I want to be able to handle a DSLR too. So, I keep reading, and trying to decide what to save up for. What helped you pick YOUR camera? Even if you get the dream camera, are you ever really satisfied with it?

Feel of the camera for me too. That, combined with the fact that my family is a Nikon family influenced my decision to get the D50 rather than the Canon at the time (even though I had a film Canon). But it was definitely about the feel and then the features.
![]() And sure, you can be satisfied with a camera, and when you find the right one, you will be for a while until you figure out what the next bits are that you need in a camera.

When you save all the money for the camera remember one important thing - it is not the camera, it is the lens. You may have a chip camera but it is the lens making the photo.
Personally - i have D3 and Haselblad and i know that my D3 will be history soon (maybe not so soon), but my film camera will last for a very long time. Now, i am trying to save for Leica M7, it is a film camera, but it can record wonderful moments in time and will last for very, very, long time. Go to the shop, have look, pick the camera, if you have feel for it - ask if you could hire one for a day or two. take some shots. Be happy

Someday I want a film camera.... and a dark room. But that'll be when the children are all grown I think.
![]() I have to say, I do like my SX100, it's just I want more zoom. (And a working dial so I can learn manual.) Is a DSLR a silly buy if at this point, I'm still planning on shooting mostly in auto until I learn enough to not lose out on good photo's of my kids? (I have barely any photo's from my oldest's first year and a half because I did not own a camera. I also had no idea he's grow soo fast! So, I can't even bring myself to ship my camera in to see how much it costs to fix the dial because I might miss opportunities.)

in 1969, my stepfather gave me his 20 year old Aires Viscount rangefinder camera for Christmas along with 20 rolls of Kodak b & w negative film.
When I first picked up and felt the Canon FTQL, I feel in love with the camera, then it was the F-1's. For some reason, I just love the way the Canon felt and operated in my hands. So I stuck with the Canon line of equipment,.
