Im sorry jim, but here's where im gonna disagree with you.

8x12 should be the largest, but no smaller than 6x9.

You dont necessarilly want your clients to have to LOOK AROUND to get the whole image in: they should be able to look at a single sheet at arms length and get the whole thing in.

i have 2 portfolios: one is 11x14 with 8x12 sized images in it, the other is 8.5x11 and has 6x9 images in it.

My aren't you well educated in putting together portfolios with still being in college. The largest should be at a max of 11x14, go ask some of the art directors ad agencies and stock photo houses in NY, LA, Chicago and most major cities what they like in portfolio reviews. It's 8x10 to 11x14 range.

I guess that's what you get for having an opinion around here

Are you putting together a series of unbound matted photos or a book? In my opinion, large photos look better when individually matted and an assortment a sizes works better in a book.

Hey...we all have opinions here, that's the great thing about DPS. Mostly it's fun to egg one another from time to time as it makes the treads that much more interesting. Then it's also good to put someone in their place and then have yourself put in your place too. Photographers by nature are like that

For portfolio usage it's best to buy a fancy binder so that you can swap out photos from time to time. But, if you are talking about a book printed by a company, yes, an assortment of picture sizes would work well from a graphically point of view. Then you can have full page bleeds, then three on a page and then two on a page. You know design it along the lines of a national geographic story.

I'm more a "bumbling camera button pusher" than a photographer but I have noticed that we all seem to have that trait
