Default Lens cap and lens cap straps.

Hello everyone,

I'm curious about how do you use your lens cap and lens caps straps. Mine always gets in the way and annoys me so I'm thinking of removing it (like holding it in a pocket while shooting). I'm just affraid I don't lose it. What about you?

Mine goes in my pants pocket. Once the camera is on and I start shooting, the cap stays off unless there will be an extended period during my walkabout when I won't be shooting, but that is rare. If I'm out with the camera, I like to have it at the ready.

Had one of those dang dangling caps once - drove me nuts. Now it's just a case of: Finding which pocket did I put the lens cap in !

Straight in the pocket with mine , that said Ive already lost 2 , but they are very cheap and easily replaced , I couldnt stand having something else hanging off my camera as my strap already annoys the hell out of me ! Ha ha

Well, I haven't misplaced every object I've ever owned (peeperita) but I have lost every loose lens cap I've ever owned. And I never loose them at home...it's always out and about. So, yep, I do the same as peeperita...cuss at it and hold it out of the way. I know the minute I take it off the camera it will go into the deep dark black hole of loose lens caps never to be seen again.

The lens cap dangling is very annoying, it would also fall off all the time with me. I got sick of it and now I just leave the lens caps in my bag until I switch lens or stop shooting. I've lost lots of lens caps, and eye cups. The eye cups popping off really really frustrate me. I'm thinking about just using a dab of rubber cement to just keep the eye cup on. Once the eye cup falls off the little plastic thing on the cup losses some tension and from then on it never grips as well as it used to.

I put it in my pocket and keep it there all the time I'm out shooting. I did the cap strap decades ago when I was first starting it. It's a total PITA.

Thanks for your answers. I think I'll take off mine and keep it in my pocket, I'm pretty good at keeping stuff.

Murtasma, one question only a serious beginner can ask, what is an eye cup?
Is that some thingie that goes over the viewfinder?

I take them off and leave them off (in the bag in the car). I'd hate to miss a shot because the lens cap was on. Did I worry about the lens getting scratched, dirty, dusty, or wet....nope, that's what filters are for. You would believe just how many people I see around Seattle who raise their cameras to get a shot, only to discover the cap's still on, and when they remove the cap...guess what? There's not a filter protecting the lens.

Eye cup is a device that goes over your viewfinder to help keep glare off.
