Are you talking about running windows inside an emulator application on a mac computer?

I know there are programs which allow you to use window based programs on a Mac. But why???????? They are bad enough on a PC.

I just got my new MacBook .... but because Microsoft wont allow a Mac version of Access I had to buy a copy of Vista to put on my laptop. So I used Bootcamp, partitioned the harddrive and reluctantly installed windows and office with access.

Everything has been running fine, then today I booted up the mac, held the option button to get to the screen where I decide if I want to boot in mac or windows, everytime I click on the windows icon the machine freezes. I tried letting it sit frozen for almost an hour once and it still didn't come out of it, i've rebooted, reclicked etc and nothing is working. I keep having to crash the machine to get out of it. Now I'm not sure what to do to get windows to work again.

I love my new Mac and wouldn't use Windows ever again however I have to use Access and there are 2 websites I deal with on almost a daily basis that are just not 100% Mac friendly.

Hmmm, that is strange. I'll ask the stupid questions (even though you've probably gotten them already )

When you installed Vista, did you make sure to install the Bootcamp drivers and run all the updates after you installed? And have you tried repairing the installation? As in, can you boot from the Windows install DVD and select the repair option?

I was going to try installing Vista, but I couldn't be bothered changing the 5 CD version that I got from the university to the DVD version (which is all you seem to be able to use with the Bootcamp installer). So I installed XP instead

... Bootcamp was completely installed in the machine (just got it a few weeks ago) and I was told it was the latest version no updates needed ....

I got a version of XP from the school I go to, but it didn't have installers in it, so I had to go buy Vista retail (I was not happy about that at all)

I dont know if I can repair it ... I'm not even sure where to try I can get to the screen that shows the hard drive icons of both apple and windows ... and that is where it freezes up. I have no clue how to fix windows thru the apple side (did that make sense ) The only thing I can think of is to go into bootcamp and uninstall (and not even sure if that is possible) and then reinstall it all. But that loses all my work which I have not externally backed up yet and the whole hassle of redoing this.

Sorry, I wasn't being clear, I was meaning the driver updates for Vista and stuff as well because I know that when I installed XP there were a number of drivers that had to be installed after the fact from the OS X install DVD.

There should be an option to boot from CD if you hold down C while restarting your computer. I haven't done a Vista install, so from here on, I have links for you to check out (since I know they changed the installer a bit from XP).

Repairing Vista: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5223
Guide to installing Vista (it shows a few errors that come up sometimes): http://www.simplehelp.net/2008/05/28...e-walkthrough/

I'd try the repair option first though.
