Default Camera straps...

do you use them?

I have mine on my camera so I can have my hands free, but it always makes me feel like a tourist!

I have one on my camera but Ive never used it to carry my camera ( sounds stupid hey )I do however throw it around my neck when shooting in compromising positions eg: up high or near water etc. If I had a DPS one I might be inclined to use it more ha ha ha instead of the stupid Canon one (more laughing) I rarely walk far , and have a backpack for all my gear (note signature for specifics ) (now pissing myself ) and quite often will leave my camera attached to my 3 legged stand thing as I tend to use it a lot ( mainly for stopping my camera rolling around in the car while doing burnouts oops I mean driving .

Oh heavens yes -- I couldn't survive without my strap.

Here's why -- 90% of the time that I'm out with my camera, I'm either hiking or snowshoeing, usually several miles through brush, on or off trails, up cliffs, through swamps, etc. Basically, backcountry hiking and camping. Without the strap, there's no way I could have my camera on me and ready for use at any time!

Incidentally, this is also why I use UV filters at ALL times (unless there's some other filter on my lens), and cheap ones at that -- it's far too easy for a stray branch to slap you and do some damage to the camera or lens before you can even think about it.

I use mine all the time. But I'm constantly picking up kids, playing with them, etc. So I have to have my hands free alot. And if I'm not working, then I have my toddler with me, who always wants to be picked up. So I have to have it around my neck for that too. Otherwise I'd be setting my camera down in all kinds of wierd places. LOL! So yep, I use mine 100% of the time. I also have a padded camera strap cover thingie on it too. So its nice and comfortable!

The strap has been on my camera since day one and has never come off, for all the reasons stated here! And...I'd rather feel like a tourist than like a camera-less photographer from dropping it or having it stolen.

Oh yes. I don't care what it looks like! There is a small danger of catching the strap and pulling the camera off a surface if you leave it lying around (I normally store my camera in its bag for safety) but I think that is much smaller than the chance of dropping the camera if used without a strap (or missing an opportunity because it took too long to get the camera out).

Same here. I let my 11 year old son use my camera all the time, and he knows the first thing to do is put the strap around his neck AND he leaves it there while he's shooting. My first lesson to him in photography was respect for the equipment.

put your flash on the camera and big bounce card or softbox on the flash and you'll look like a pro, not a tourist!
