Default Share your DPS pet peeve

Prompted by another thread I had to start this one. The rules are simple.
1. Remember that peeves are not aimed at any person nor should anyone be offended by them. It is all in fun and shows the uniqueness of each DPS member.
2. Your pet peeve must pertain to DPS and photography.

Keeping that in mind, tell us simply what your pet DPS peeve is. To get the ball rolling I will start.

My pet peeve is simply the use of the word 'shot'. I cringe when I read someone saying, "I shot this', or 'look at the shot I got". Why? you ask. Well simply put, athough we may have photo shoots, we take photographs, or photos if you must. The word 'shot' implies, to me anyway, that the photograph is nothing more than a simple snapshot that anyone could have taken.

While I accept that some of the DPS participants do not speak English as their home language, I cannot understand why any aspiring photographer refers to his photograph as a SHOT!

Wo dares go next?

Nice -- I don't care too terribly much about "shot" versus "photo" versus "capture" (etc.), but I can definitely see how it would be annoying. It's related to one of my pet peeves outside of photography, which is when students say that they "got" a grade (in a class) as opposed to "earned" it. It implies a pretty big lack of ownership of your work.

Anyhow, related to DPS, and this is a pretty minor thing -- I really dislike it when people post a thread in a critique forum, but don't clearly label that they want a critique (or what it is for). If someone hasn't asked... I feel kind of uncomfortable just jumping in and criticizing their work -- no matter how useful I think that might be. Clearly there are forum rules requiring specific questions (but we know that doesn't always happen). I suppose it comes down to the competition in my brain between Mr. Nice Guy and the A$$hole Critiquer. Maybe I should change my username...

1. Not reading Share your Shots or Critique Forum rules before posting.
2. Not using the search feature of the forum.
3. Asking about how to change point and shoot. (less of a problem now)
4. Too many posts that just contain "Great Shot!"

Other then that everything is great

my pet peeve is when people dont state the currency in ther posts when speaking of prices..
we dont all live in the same country!

Canadian, Australian, Zimbabwe, Rwandan, New Zealand, USA... theres allot of different dollars out there. they dont all hold the same value.

1,000,000,000 Zim dollars = US$1 ...roughly.. with an inflation rate of a few thousand percent nobody truly knows what it is

.my Fav reply is "..so thats Zimbabwe dollars right?... you got a great deal."

genielamb -- I use 'shoot' as the preferred verb over taking or making a photo. 'Taking' does have the snapshot quality to it, but 'making' just sounds so pretentious.

One of my biggest pet peeves is generic thread titles, worse are generic titles that resort to funky characters and capitalization to call people's attention to them. The best way to get me to read a thread is to write a compelling title.

may i share another?

my OTHER pet peeve is when i go to the trouble of formulating a helpful and succinct response to a newbie (normally with less than five postes under their belt),
and they never return to the forum and see the answer.

i've had that twice recently. grrrr.
thanks for wasting my time.

I'd have to say that when people don't read the rules and create 3 or 4 new threads in SYS within minutes of each other is one. Another one is the critique thing...."um, what would you like critique on????" Or not posting EXIF (they're wondering why their hand-held shot (er, photo, sorry Genie ) is blurry but failed to provide EXIF, which states it was taken at 1/15. LOL!

Me...........when someone's asking for advice and then not respecting my/our opinions and therefore take it personally rather than realizing that the criticism heard is not a criticism of them, but only a subjective commentary on the relative merits their images or website. Jezzzzzzzz that was a mouthful to say. You can imagine just how difficult that was to think of and then type as well Some dazes I just don't feel too intelligent.
