Hmmm... thought i'd be amongst the majority with "people" but seems not... If this question were asked a month ago, it would have been places, but for the last few weeks it has become people. I have just purchased a long lens which is great for candids. Nothing beats a picture of someone that "tells a story" through their eyes or the way they look / their surroundings.. People for me.

I like people. Especially if I can get them when they don't realize it. Candid shots are the best.

Well, I'm much more of a place photographer (as long as places also include still-lifes, etc). I'm pretty shy... even if most people don't believe me. I've done portraits and a wedding or two, but if I had to choose between people or places I would probably choose places at this point. If I were to become less shy or even more skilled at portraits, this might change. I'm often very impressed by the quality of portraits that some people are able to get, and would very much like to be able to do that.
Like a lot of other people have said, places don't get cranky with your or dislike your pictures, so that's what I'm picking for now. Besides, there's a whole lot of places out there... and they don't care if you want to take a picture in the middle of the night

Hmm I cant say as I prefer one over the other. I enjoy taking pictures of both people and places. Both have thier pluses and both can have challanges. How can you place capturing a babies smile, or a loving gaze of a new bride or the colors of the rainbow or the eyes of an owl over one another?
Landscapes can complain with you just as much as people can, just in a different manner.

My best shots are places, I find places a lot easier than people... most of my 'display shots' are peopleless. I purposefully try to capture many of the scenes I take without people in them
But... I find people more rewarding, so I've chosen People. Despite it not being my most common shooting, its def my favorite.

I feel more comfortable taking pics of places. I think I take good photos of people (mainly my daughters and wife) but I like to get them in candid situations and not posing. I feel like I'm imposing or something if I take pics of other people.

I had to vote places, much like the others have posted, I'm rather shy and don't like to ask permission to take someone's photo. I love nature, and flowers and trees don't mind getting their picture taken
![]() When I shoot people, I like the candid shots the best. Those are the very best in my collection, IMHO. |

Places. Wildlife, insects, fish, birds, landscapes, anything but people. I'll make exceptions for friends and relatives, but other than that, I took this up as something relaxing to do when I'm fed up with people, and it is remarkably effective...

I like places better than people, I am under less pressure and can take more
time looking for the angle I want. I take many peoples pictures at my church and my job, sometimes I have less than 5 seconds before I need to take the next photo. I always prepare my equipment the night before because there is "no second chance" for children receiving their sacraments in Church |
