Default better memory card

I'm upgrading on my memory card. I only have a 1GB and it is a pain to keep taking pictures off. I was looking around and was interested in the faster cards. I had read some though that the SDHC cards only worked on certain cameras. Is that correct and if so what cameras. I have a Nikon D50 and I'm looking for a card that will last without having to change the card often.

A complete list would be way to long to post... That said I believe the Nikon D50 doesn't support SDHC, most all older camera's don't. You can still use up to 4GB regular SD cards. Regular 2GB and 4GB cards are dirt cheap any more so you can readily purchase and use multiple cards.

Smile Speed is not everything....

Not sure why you are thinking of a higher speed card, but check your camera manual for the write speed and anything more, will just be extra. Your manual will also tell you which card makers have been approved for your system as well as the size and speed. Your home computer system may use the extra speed, but is it worth the extra costs to have your photos downloaded 5 min faster?

I shoot around 500 images a day and my concern is that I have enough space to shoot without changing cards all the time. I use 4, 8 and 16 gig cards.

When buying a card, be sure you can return it if it is not compatible with your camera. Just because if fits, does not mean it will work. I have had to return a few .

I usually will pick up a deal at Fry's, like the 16 gig card for around $35

Good luck

JM

Jamesc359: 4GB cards are SDHC. So they wont work.

On a D50, youre left with 2GB or smaller.

Most 4GB cards are SDHC, but not all...

2GB regular SD cards are more likely than regular 4GB SD cards to be compatible with older cameras though...

Thanks. I guess I will get several 2GB. I don't care how fast it downloads to the computer i just want to get my action shots from drag races.
