This is very, very helpful info. I've been thinking about getting a little set in case I get a gig I've had my eye on and an Impact kit (in particular the VSD300 Two Monolight Umbrella/Softbox Kit ). I was kind of wondering if it seemed too good to be true. Now I'm starting to think it was.

I agree with you on the reviews: I love love love B&H but either I have an uncanny talent for picking superior products or the reviewers on that site are too kind.

Thanks for the head's up on the Impact!

I had been thinking about the Impact kit until I read this post.
I opted to check my local camera shop for the Promaster Background Support System knowing that it utilized the LS-2 light stands that have proven themselves as durable enough for my use. They normally sell the kit for $139, but were out of stock. However, they had the stands and crossbar kit on hand and sold me the equivalent pieces (less the carying case) for $135. By the time I would have had the Impact kit shipped, the Promaster option only cost me another $20.
