Default If You Like Looking....

Well, I'm so far behind in reading on the posts here...I just can't begin to catch up! So, I hope this isn't old information...I just saw it on TV and found in very interesting. Thought some of you may also.

That's how I got there. Hope some will enjoy it as much as I did.

OH! Also, a friend sent me a link the other day. I tried to share it here, but had lost my login information. Now that I'm back...

It takes a while for this to load (at least it did for me), but I thought it an amazing bit of graphic accomplishment!

I'm stilly trying to work things out in understanding this site. There's so much information, and such talent! I get lost in just looking at the posted photographs! I also broke down and signed up for a photography class via the mail. (Don't want to mention the particulars here, as I don't want to upset ANY carts.) I have high hopes, but already find myself in deep with the discussion of focal length conversions and linear distortions.

And one last thing...I took my camera to a photography store to ask them to check out my new lens (everything bought from eBay as my funds are extremely limited), to find out it has a little scratch. I don't think it will hurt anything, but he (the clerk) also told me my equipment just wasn't "professional" level, but only consumer level. It was very discouraging. The best I could get (for the money) was a 10.2 Megapixel Pentax K10D (used). I went for the most megapixels I could get for my buck. I'd sell whatever I could to get a good Nikon, but...well, the market is what it is. But now, after talking with this man, I'm SO discouraged! I've always loved taking photographs, but now want to learn how to make a living with a camera. Confidence seems to be a big factor, and though some seem to gain it with age, I don't think I am one of those. I know, it's a personal problem, but I think it was awfuly cold of him to speak so badly about my equipment. Well, he did have a beautiful, used, Nikon there for less than $700, just the body and battery pack, but there is nothing I can do. Lost my job at the end of January. Been RACKING MY BRAIN trying to think of what to sell to get it, but that's just more frustration!

Ok, I've taken up enough of your time. Hope the links will work for you, and that your photos bring you great joy (and that I can learn how to bring joy to others with a camera!).

G.B.

Welcome to DPS!

Yes, there's a difference between pro gear and consumer gear but what makes or breaks the picture is the person taking it. Give a pro a point and shoot and someone that has never taken a picture before a $5,000 "pro" camera and the pro will probably take better pictures. Why? Because they've developed an eye for composition.

So, don't be discouraged by what the guy in the shop said. Go out there and take pictures. That's how you get better.

Have fun and keep shooting.
