I have several memory cards, having started with a couple of 512 cards when I first got a 5 megapixel digital point & shoot camera.
I now have an 8 megapixel dSLR, so I generally just keep the 512s for a "just in case" scenario and mainly use two 4 Gb cards, one is always available as a backup in case a card gets corrupted.

This is a great question! I always like to have a backup, so watch for sales on SD memory cards. At $30-$35 a whack for 2gig Sandisk Ultra 2, I couldn't resist. I didn't realize until today, just how many I had and was quite surprised to see 2 spare (3 all together) 2gig ultra cards and a 512 ultra! Thought it might be overboard, but then again....I was with a friend today and she forgot her memory card at home after a recent download, asked me if I had a spare...we were both surprised when I opened my carrier and saw the extra 2gig cards! She said "Wow! I guess you really do have backup!" Yup! I figure if I forgot my card at home too and was in photography heaven, I'd have a backup for my backup, if I filled one up!

I only have 2 512's, but I'm waiting on a sale on a bigger one.
For a long time, I thought that 512 was the largest.
I've learned so much this year...lol

I carry a total of 4 GB (two 2GB cards).

My main reason for that choice is that im away for 2 weeks in Canada and i probably wont get a chance to download them anywhere so i decided that overkill on space was my best option!

I formatted my memory card for the first time today!

It's a 2GB SanDisk SD. I also have a 16MB that came with the camera. So, technically, I have between 2 and 4GB.
