Default Greetings from a newbie to photography

Hello all.

I'm Anastasia. I'm relatively new to photography. As part of my media degree , this semester I have to take a photography course, and as I've not been too good a photographer before (pictures came out fuzzy unless everything's set to automatic which is how i got by shooting most stuff before.)

I've recently developed a bit of an interest in photography. even if so far some of the concepts are a bit over my head (what the hell is circle of confusion? other than a bunch of photographers trying to figure out depth of field. heh)

I have a Canon EOS400D SLR with standard kit lens, which is good for the course (we use Nikon D60 at uni); still trying to figure out the camera and connect the dots with some of the concepts. Unlike usually, this time I understand the theory quite well but have a hard time executing it in practice and connecting the dots, so mostly it's just fiddle with the settings, point and shoot. Which sometimes renders interesting results. (sometimes not so much) a lot of it is trial and error, really.

I have a particular difficulty with getting the depth of field right, most images I shoot come out sharp, some come out with a blurriness, but it's never where I want it to be , so I'm still trying to figure that one out. heh. in particular because I have to do a presentation next week on depth of field with example shots, and it's kinda aggravating that most of them come out pin sharp! Wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't depth of field that had to be demonstrated! But I guess, being fairly new, I have much to learn, and hopefully with time I'll improve and get the hang of things a lot better than I do now.

good luck with it.

hers a link you may find useful..

with regard to the sharpness, open the aperture up a bit to narrow the Depth of Field, or shift the focus manually for an out of focus shot.

The picture is of actor David Tennant, who plays the current body of The Doctor, from the brilliant tv series Doctor Who..

Personally, I really liked him as Casanova...

Russ.

My wife and I have been watching the Dr. Who series since the early 80's. She musts have them all on VHS and DVD format, and along with Blake 7 and Star Trek series. Welcome to DPS.
