i have seen a forum where you place your pin on a map, but i think there are already groups you can join if you look under the userCP > networking and " social groups"
i dont know how active this sort of stuff is because i never look there. but a worldmap may be a good idea.

Stickied towards the top of this General Chit Chat forum is this thread. Is that closed to what you had in mind?

If I'm understanding BreathofLife correctly, it would be more like separate subsections for different regions, so that people in each region could easily connect and set up meetings, etc, without digging through the forum to find out who lives near you.

precisely Amberskies. I went ahead and started an area group where Candleman suggested. I live in Texas, so I started a Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma group. I just think it would be fun to plan group photography trips, or if for instance one person specializes in weddings, and another in boudoir then they could share space at a wedding show. Stuff like that.

Great idea, I am going to be focussing more on us getting together and things like this in 2009. All ideas appreciated.

Excellent idea how good would it be to actually be able to get together for shared photography outings and to see other peoples technique and equipment .Awesome .

Social groups are the way to go. You can set one up for whatever you want, but check first that there isn't already one that suites your purposes. Here is a plug for one I created for Sunsets and Sillouettes http://digital-photography-school.co...php?groupid=43
