Default HDR Options

I downloaded and used the Photomatrix HDR program and I really liked the results I got. I'm am amateur and the $99 price tag is a little more than I would like to spend on something I'm still "playing" with. Are there any other software options that may be a bit cheaper that work just as well?

But if you start to post a bunch of over-saturated, over-manipulated HDR images I'll be required to tell you they suck...

If you have a PC then try Picturenaut. I've used it and it does a good job. It also comes on a disc in the book The HDRI Handbook written by Christian Bloch. The disc included in the book also has a freeware HDR application for Macs if I remember correctly as well as trial versions of other HDR applications like Photomatix.

I like some HDR, but yea... If it's over done and over the top, i'll be #2 in line to tell you to tone it down a tad.

Options for HDR?

Make over-processed, uninteresting, and just plain bad images, or don't.

Pretty simple.

I agree with you to a point. I have seen some really good HDR images but than again they are few and far between

I liked QTPFSGUI but when you start you need to know its got quite a leraning curve. You might want to check out the flickr group for it.
I totally disagree with Japaslavian and anyone else who thinks all HDR's are bad images that are over processed.
you might see the majority of HDR being over done but if done right they are simply amazing.....
When I started it was the over done look i wanted and liked but as I got into the HDR technique I really wanted to go for the realistic as appose to the surreal.
It takes a light hand but Real HDR can be gorgeous and some fo the best shots I have ever seen.
