Default What the big deal? Articulated screens?

Olympus have just anounced a new DSLR that should be right in my upgrade path, the E620 and I don't want one. How dissapointing. Its not even in a sensible I don't need it way. I'm not even lusting after it in an irational way.

It just doesn't add the features that I would like even though it really looks like a fantastic camera. The main thing is the screen. Is an articulated screen such a big deal? For the ammount of time I would use it its not worth the trade off of 2.7" 260,000 dots vs the Canikon route of 3" 960,000 dots which would be a lot nicer.

My question is does anybody think this feature is worth it?

Dissapointinly I'm still lusting (in an achievable way) over a D90 which means a change of systems which is a stupid thing to do.

it is not a stupid thing to do if you are not to heavily invested in glass. And no I personally do not care about the articulated screen but I do know some photographers that go nuts for them.

And I'm not. However I'm not planning to buy a new camera for a few years. The fact that Olympus doesn't seem to be going where I want them to is stopping me buying new glass though as I don't want to become heavily invested.

Catch 22!

Yea, I would have went the Nikon or Canon route. They won't be going anywhere anytime soon; if ever. I don't see much use on a DSLR with an articulated screen.

Has the E620 got a live preview? That might make the articulated screen worthwhile - for example point the camera at things you can't reach or getting into a good pose in a self portrait.

Yea it has. Olympus kind of pioneered live view in affordable DSLRs. I can see that it may be of some use but I think the better screen is more use more of the time.

The only benefit for me would be the ability to view the screen when holding the camera over my head (concerts or outdoor events), or viewing the screen when the camera is too low for eye level (shooting the underside of flowers, etc.)
