How about the Anne Geddes inspired shots of a tiny white newborn in an black man's hands, or vice versa?
I happen to love a lot of cliche'd shots, and I'm guilty of many. They wouldn't be cliche if they weren't brilliant to begin with. As Charles Caleb Colton said, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." |

I'm definitely going to have to tackle some of these.
You know this reminds me of a story I heard about Brian Eno. He has a set of index cards he shuffles in the studio to brainstorm. One of them says "Don't be afraid of cliches". Now, this may be apocryphal, but I like the sentiment. EDIT: Found it. They were called Oblique Strategy Cards. They weren't index cards, but actual printed playing-sized cards. Here's a list someone posted to the USENET group rec.music.synth waaay back in 1992: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.m...c8fb6f15?pli=1 EDIT 2: Found the 5th ed. for sale on Brian Eno's online store. They're £30 and it looks like that's the only place to find new sets. Older editions are apparently crazy expensive collector's items. http://www.enoshop.co.uk/ OK, I'm done with the tangental thread-jack. Back to the cliche list! I didn't see it, but maybe I missed it: Little girl in park with balloon(s)

Other hot chick shots to add would be....... Standing on railroad tracks. Holding a gun. Holding a guitar. Wearing angel wings. Wearing a gas mask. Grinding a piece of metal. Standing against an old brick wall. I know a lot more, but I havn't been awake long enough to think straight. |

I never heard of these cards before...I read through the Oblique Strategy Cards - wow...brilliant and thought provoking. I'm saving that list...it may come in handy when I need some inspiration...lol.....thanks for the information. Also, I think another one on the list that points to cliches is "Use an old idea". |
