I say there's absolutely nothing wrong with cliches, mfreg I've got plenty in my photostream and I'm sure there are more to come! lol

when you do a 365 project you can't help but do many of the cliche shots.

Hmm... I think I need to start a cliche set on my flickr photostream. Lord knows I've done enough of them!

Seriously, though, taking cliche shots can actually teach you something. On a cold winter's day, spending time inside figuring out how to get a good waterdrop or smoke shot will have you exploring focus, speed, lighting, etc. plus the fun of actually capturing a good one!

Amen Saralonde. Instead of calling them cliches let's call them standards. Every musician learns simple songs everyone knows when learning their instrument. Every painter has to tackle fruit in a basket, and every writer has to do a treatment of the classic tales before moving to their own material. I've taken cliches and I'm proud of them because they're mine. So a sunset is cliche? Did you shoot one? Can you? In full auto? If not, you better work on the standards before you expect to be taken seriously with your own stuff.

I think I am going to go with the term "classics"

I think might have to make a set of all these shots too. I'm pretty sure I have done at least one shot of all these cliches.

I've seen these cliches LOADS of times...

Woman in a big white dress holding some flowers while standing next to a guy in a suit.
Same couple as above, but with two older couples standing either side of them.
Same as above, but with three other girls in matching dresses...

Russ.

How do you do the smoke shots? I am keeping a list too! Great stepping off point to be the more creative with the cliches. I have several already--but I think I will put them all in one digital album. Challenging and fun!
