fixed.

To add to the list:

-bokeh
-HDR
-extremely angled "self-portraits" with a lot of forearm and bathroom counters
-markers and colored pencils arranged in circles
-gummy bears
-water drops on leaves
-people swinging on those big carousel things
-over-zealous textures
-grass macros
-long hair consuming someone's face

I'll admit to a couple...

Kind of localized, but one on my personal cliche to-do list is a picture of a Wall Street streetsign with a semi-focused American flag (or flags) in the background. Absent a press pass I haven't been able to get close enough to the sign to get the flag out of the focal area, even at 2.8. But this shot will be mine!

what is bokeh?

I love these additions. I'm definitely adding a lot of them to my list. They must be some sort of initiation, no?

Look on every photo community and you will see all the "photographic clichés" you could ever want. What seperates these from work's of art, skill and luck.

Almost every shot you could think of has been shot a thousand times before but only one or two ever stand out.

Having said that, it is all these "photographic clichés" that we all learn from.

wow, I am so guilty of so many of the above (only got my camera for Xmas). Thank goodness I chucked in a couple of balls with wigs in bed & sad looking chess pieces.

Still .... something alluring about wanting to do that water drop shot .............. & sunrise ...... & ...

Hehe, what a cool thread. These shots are a lot of fun to try though.

HDR Sunset?

Seriously, just because an IDEA has become hackneyed doesn't mean it's a bad idea. I used to have a poster on my wall growing up that had corollaries to Murphy's Law. One of them was, "The race isn't always to the swift, or the fight to the strong, but that's the way to bet." Likewise, most of these ideas that have been listed are listed because they ARE images people like, and they are challenging to recreate, but even more challenging to recreate WELL.

Putting together something that has been done before and STILL IMPRESSING PEOPLE is the real challenge.

That said, I can't believe hot chicks on a car and birds on a telephone wire haven't been mentioned yet.

How about the blurry, grainy UFO above the farmhouse? Hehe...couldn't help myself, sorry. But seriously folks...maybe an upcoming challenge? Fresh Look at Cliche Photos?
