I only know of one - Wordpress.org. Are there any others that are free or nearly free?

good luck!

Right now I'm in the middle of a major makeover on my own site. I had one page done when another job came up, so it was put on hold only playing with it a time or two in the last 2 months. But that site will go live this week (if the gal I'm making it for gets over the flu). Then I will get back to the work on mine.

But for selling prints, I'm planning to open a Zenfolio site in the near future.

Hm, wordpress.org does not give you a website but CMS which can be used to build website or a blog. Wordpress.com however gives you free blog with yourblogname.wordpress.com adress.

If you want free host, you should check out awardspace.com, freewebs.com, freehostia.com, and similar services, but than you need to use your php/xml/css skills and develop your presentation/website/gallery or use some cms to do that...

If on other hand you need "all in one" solution, where you get free hosting and installed cms for blog, you should check out wordpress.com, blogger.com (google's blogging service, recommended), livejournal.com, yahoo360, tumblr, weebly, ...

What are you defining as a "website"?

Wordpress is a blogging tool. It has been extended to all sorts of purposes, which make it very flexible (if you have the skills to make use of these things).

There are numerous ways to get a web presence for free. Arguably, it is better to cover several bases rather than attempting to find one option to do everything. I've got numerous footholds, most of which are free and most of which end up linking to each other - for example, my blog and Flickr account (linked below), profiles on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Reverbnation and others too.

Than you need a free blog at wordpress.com and to make several pages on it, one which will include your flickr photostream. Thats it. 10 minutes and you are done.

Those additional things you must pay for (own domain, css editing and other) you dont even need...

web hosting is so cheap nowadays that for anything serious and/or professional I'd go with a paid host. I use http://www.mtbhost.com/. The guy who runs it is also a photographer.

Private,

Have you looked into Microsoft Office Live at this link: http://www.officelive.com/free-website?xid=c2logo

I have an account there but have not done much with it. However my son has a site and it works for him. Perhaps a little limited in size but real easy to use. Here is his link if you want to see what can be done with the free Microsoft site. www.flyfishcrestedbutte.com
