If I'm shooting near the beach or in town, I just wing it.

If I'm heading out into the woods, or swamp area's I bring my boots, and a nice little .380 automatic pistol. Might sound extreme, but we had a Florida panther hit by a car a few miles from my house a year or so ago, and a group of motorcycles ran over a bear just a few days ago. Of course we also have the gators to deal with.

I've got up close, and personal with a few gators, several water moccasins, and a couple Diamondback rattle snakes. Never had to use the gun thou.

So either way, you'll end up shooting an animal one way or the other. Hopefully, it's always with your camera.

My favorite non-camera photography accessory is my Pocket PC. Besides being my phone, it also does over a hundred things for me. For example, I could pop the SD card out of my DSLR camera and insert the SD card into my Pocket PC. Then I could view and process the photos on my Pocket PC's larger screen at VGA resolution. I could immediately send the photos via e-mail or MMS, or upload the photos to Flickr or to an FTP site (at 3G speed). I also installed some photography-specific applications on my Pocket PC for calculating exposure and DOF.

So I read somewhere that there are only around 30 panthers left in Florida and that your chances of seeing one are about the same as winning the lottery... I would hope that if you did see one you would only shoot it with the camera and not the gun.... and then would go buy a lottery ticket and spend your winnings on getting everyone here at DPS some new gear. I know I for one would love the D200 or D2Xs.

Wow I sure wish I had won the lottery as many times as I've seen or know someone who has seen a panther!

This past week it was a small clean makeup brush (the little unuseable kind that come in blush makeup kits) that I used to dust sand off my camera. Worked very well, took up very little space.

Well I personally have only seen one once (outside a zoo.) And I didnt have a camera with me at the time (this was like 8 years ago.) I had a friend in HS that was attacked by one while camping and a girl I worked with hit one with her car on accident.

So that's 3 lottery winnings please!
