I would rather say "creating an image" but since the discipline is to pick one of the two, I have opted for taking pictures. I would be inclined to say making, because there is so much choice in creating the final result even with natural subjects, but I think that fits "taking" under the definitions given.

I don't (at the moment) typically spend a lot of time setting up objects or post-processing to make significant changes like painting things in and out.

I definitely take pictures. And I tend to take a lot of pictures. That being said, I like to make pictures, especially those that involve people and situations where it would be impossible to take again.

Chalk me up as a 'taker' rather than a 'maker'. Being into landscapes, wildlife, social events and hopefully soon some urban photography - I am much more into capturing what I can find - 'taking'. That is not of course to say I am not interested in 'making' shots, I have done a little of that, and I think it is a good rainy day activity.

I just think that there are so many opportunities to exhaust 'taking' photos, that it will be a while before I need to start 'making' photos!

I am not organised enough to "make" a photo. It is enough of a challenge to try and get the settings right at the moment. Put me down as a "taker"

Hmmm, This one isn't nearly as clear cut as my first reaction...

My intial thought was Take, but the more I think about it the more confused I am.

Yes, I just take... but I also drive miles out of my way to find that shot to take, or head out walking at dusk so the light is right if I do find something to Take. If its wet outside, I'll find something in the house to play with, like bubbles or macro shots of household items - if theres something to Take, then I will, if not I just enjoy my evening. I'll head out under a full moon to see what I can Take.

All of them I just 'Take' what I see, but often a lot of 'making' goes into the shot.

I still think I fall under Take though, as Making suggests having a vision and piecing an image together... I generally just give my Taking a little helping hand. But its a very grey line!

Check out my Flickr front page for a sample of images and you'll probably see what I mean. None of them were planned, but all of them I gave a big helping hand!

Default Make (I think)

I think for this one I will go with the minority of the votes.

I really enjoy taking the time to set up pictures. I think this is why I get photographers block sometimes because there's something really satisfying about seeing your vision come out just as you hoped. I think that it's just as valid as taking pictures because I'm not much for photojournalism type pictures. So I'm not actually aiming to create a truthful representation of the way that things actually are. I'm aiming for some sort of creative representation of what I want to see.

Of course, I do often go out and just take pictures because otherwise I'd rarely pick up the camera, but if I had to pick one, I think I'd go for making pictures just because I like that element of control and creation.

Taking a photo feels to me like luck, Making a Photo implies planning and execution.
