Default Your FAVORITE FreeWare

I thought I would start a thread so we could all learn about freeware and which ones are worth having.

My favorite freeware is Noiseware Community Edition. What's yours?

Noiseware gets rid of the noise that you will see on some of your pictures - usually in low light or if the ISO is too high.

It might help if you tell more about the program. I'm unfamiliar with Noiseware.

I have 2.
1) Mozilla Firefox - I hate Microsoft Explorer, this alternative webbrowser is much easier to use and has "ad ons" that are very useful.

2) AVG - Free antivirus. Enough said!

My favorite "Freeware" has got to be "GIMP". Available here:
http://www.gimp.org/
It's almost as powerful as Photoshop. It's a great way to learn about layers and masking. It has a huge list of available tutorials (online), and you can even create your own "Actions". (Actions are processes that involve more than 1 step. Once created, you only have to click once to get all steps done.) I highly reccomend this program.

I agree with Firefox. I hate IE too. I'm going to have to try AVG.

I use Adium chat ware, much like MSN and AOL instant messanger. That way I can communicate with my editor instantly before and after sending pixs. Or just talking to my friends. Great communication software. I also use Safari and Firefox for internet browsers. Other than that, I don't any other freeware.

Great thread idea, Lori!

My first thought was google's Picasa for editing and viewing photographs. Not as powerful as the GIMP, but quick and easy all the way.

Ah yes, shareware/freeware/opensource. Good stuff!

Here's a short list of my fav's

- FireFox or IceWeasel
- Winamp (it really kicks the Llama's ass!)
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Ad-aware
- VLC Player (Best music/video player of all time)
- BitTorrent

I'm sure there's stuff i'm missing. Ah well, long live open source!!

Photography-related would be DigiKam for organizing and simple editing, GIMP for more complex editing and UFRAW for the infrequent times I have a RAW file to work with. For uploading to Flickr I use jUploadr. I'm also using the commandline "exiftool" because GIMP *still* strips out IPTC tags , hopefully they'll address that issue.

Firefox is my browser of choice on any OS and for anti-malware duty on my wife's Windows system we installed free versions of Avast!, Ad-Aware and Threatfire.

I use Firefox as well and hate Microsoft Explorer too! I use Avira. It's a FREE anti-virus as well. From avira.com. It's highly rated!

Another is spybot, from spybot.org and of course Adaware...
