I have a facebook because my daughter and son do. Several parents are on as well and I have actually gotten some business just by people seeing my website on my page and asking about doing a session. It's free, that's the big plus.

Shutterbug - How do you add your website to your facebook account - I did just see that you can advertise in the Marketplace...that's nice.

P.S. I would have PM'd you but thought everyone could benefit from your knowledge...

I do love Facebook - even my old Auntie in New Zealand is on there...

hey I like having photographer friends on facebook. Feel free to add me. I like to use it to post pictures for free. It is a good way for a general population to look at my work.

I know you asked shutterbug, but I'm here and know the answer, so....

In Facebook, click "Edit My Profile", then go to the "Contact Information" section. If you click edit, there's a field for websites. You can add as many websites as you like, so if you have a blog, and a separate site with a shopping cart, you can add each URL on a separate line, to list them all. Then just save your changes.

If you have a blog or photoblog with an RSS feed, you can use the notes application to import notes those posts into your Facebook account automatically. Just go to Applications -> Notes -> Import Notes -> And enter your website or RSS feed address.

Also, using the pages application, you can add your website, so anyone on Facebook can become a fan.

My two cents.

Just as someone said about. If you already have a group of people it's a lot easier. I joined MS & FB last year when I was planning my 20th High School Class Reunion. It was very beneficial. I searched by my high school name, and I quickly found people I had not heard of in a LONG LONG time. MS was originally started as a way for Musicians to be discovered. (Journey found their new Lead singer there) FB is more of the "professional" of the two if you ask me. MS is full of kids. FB has more adults. After our reunion (I had my camera in the car allllllllllll weekend and never took the 1st picture, but then again I was running around heading up the entire weekend) the pictures everyone took circulated VERY QUICKLY. So yes it can get your name out there. And your pictures. But you need to have a client base 1st. How FB works is say you & I are friends. One of your friends Friend X (not mine) post some pictures on their page. If you comment on that particular picture, I (being one of your friends) would see your comments on that picture. I would then look at that picture and say, hmmm Friend X has a keen eye for DOF, I'll add her as a friend. And soon you'll. So the next time any of Friend X's friends comment on one of her photos I'd see that comment and do the same thing.

Another way you find people of similar interests is the friend tab on the right of your page. It consistantly pops up people from my high school, of friends of my friends. Obviously if you are creating a Business FB page, I'd leave what HS you went to off the page. And concentrate of photography people.

Hope this helps.

Cool

Hello Pat,

Never ventured into facebook (yet), but as long as you are not paying for the service, why not.

I wanted to warn you though of paid areas as most are just scams and you are just wasting your money. They will claim so many hits per day, etc. Yet what they won't tell you is the duration of the "hit", how long did that hit stay around, did they search the other pages or just the main page, etc.. I deal with this all the time and will suggest that with the "robots" out there, most hits are nothing but fishing tools trying to get info for spam collection.

So be careful.

By the way, did you know that a site called Classmates.com has just been outed as a total scam? Yep, site makes you think that there are old classmates trying to contact you. To see the results you just need to sign up for there "nominal fee" of $15. When you sign up, no one there.....
The suite says there were over a hundred thousand sign ups!

So be careful....

Good shooting

JM
