I don't carry it everywhere. I hardly go out to take pictures. I am just not confident enough to have "setups" in public

I find it very useful though when I practice indoors.

It's nice to have, you just never know. I might run into Shaina Twain and I don't want camera shake.

I voted yes (yeah) and I do carry it with me most of the time. I do sometimes leave it behind when I travel light for more casual shooting or when I know I will have enough light to shoot hand held. I believe there are some places that won't let you in with a tripod either. I haven't been stopped personally, but I've read posts on this forum about it.

Anytime I can use my tripod I will. Except for surfing shots. I find a mono pod gives me a lot more control as far as following the surfer.

For me its all about getting the best image possible. I can hand hold a 80-200 f/2.8, and a 300 f/4 with a 1.4 TC, and get acceptable images, but when I can use a tool like a tripod why settle for just acceptable.

You really need another option. I have a camera with me everywhere I go, but only take my tripod when I know I'm going to be out shooting. Even then, it usually stays in the car until I've determined, or know, that the location where I'm shooting will allow me to set it up without being in the way or getting hassled.

I swear by tripods, and recommend them whenever possible, but they're just not practical "everywhere".

true but at the end of the day it all comes down to where you are going.Dont say you can hand hold a 30 sec long exposure when you are doing night photography
its all about the time and place

Often but not always. I like having it around because there are some shots for which it is essential. However, there are also plenty (when the light is good or the tripod is just too inconvenient) where it isn't wanted.

Frequently I carry the tripod and end up hardly using it at all - it is just as well the one I use is fairly light and compact.

I almost never carry a tripod other than for long exposures.
Even then, most of my long exposure were taken by simply setting the camera down on a rock or something.

Then again, I mostly shoot when there's good light to shoot in.

Tripods are so cumbersome...
