I currently have two favorites that really has influenced my approach, and ideas for where I would like my images to look like after this amateur faze that I'm currently experiencing.
Naomi Masina http://naomimasinaphotography.blogspot.com Vincent Vercase http://versacephotography.com/gallery/index.html What I love about Naomi's work is her attention to fun, and freedom within her work. She doesn't restrict herself, her images speak Love, Individuality, and Life, so much life in her work, I just love it. To sum it up, I love her attention to detail, composition, color, and exposure, she has a trademark balance to create a viable product. What I love about Vincent's work is his attention to history, and light. He is such a well cultured all around photographer, he bend the basics in a way that can't be described in words, you would have to see it believe it. What I love about this man also is that he really doesn't follow the rules of photography to the letter like so many on his level. His philosophy is the print should be the focus, not the process. It is the print that you sell, it is the print that you show, it is the print that you hang on your wall, not the process you used to capture it, just the end result, which is the print. I agree with most of his thought processes, but I have to say for me, and where I would like my photography to end up, It will have the essence of both Naomi, and Vincent V styles. Nikon D80/ AF Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4-5.6G/ Sigma DG 28-70mm 1:2.8-4/ Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor/ Nikon SB600 Flash "Truth is the light illuminating my images" "Better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly." - Robert Schuller "You don't take a photograph, you make it." - Ansel Adams |

I only came across this guys work recently since I've been reading up on the whole Strobist movement, but I am really impressed and feel inspired by Joe McNally.
Check out his blog here: http://www.joemcnally.com/blog/ His "category" about lighting is excellent. He also has a video on youtube where he climbs to the top of the spike on the Empire State Building for a photo!!! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cEAKQFddTLI

I'd have to say Govert de Roos and Paul Huf.
Unfortunately, I can't find an online gallery with Huf's work, since he died in 2002 and his heirs don't share his work online. There is an award in his name here in Holland and he is remembered as one of our greatest photographers here. Another great young photographer is Paul Paper from Lithuania. I love his work and had the pleasure of meeting him while he was traveling through Europe. I love the fact that he still does everything with an analogue camera. |

I was reminded today of one of my favorite photographers when I first started taking pictures...really amazing photo-manipulation, and all done in the dark room!

Victor Trusch
http://www.victortrusch.com/ I've had one of his posters (called "Scarlet Plays The Blues") on my wall since September and I've been meaning to look his work up, but I haven't remembered 'till now. Amazingly beautiful work he's got and I adore the website! Once I had seen the website, I just thought Oh, I wanna share this on DPS and searched for this kind of thread. His posters are my favorites. Absolutely gorgeous. Little retro, lots of nude and almost nude women (photographed in a very sensual yet bold way), strong messages... I'm gonna buy more of his posters if I can find 'em when I go to the city.

I believe I got turned on to him by Jim Bryant in a similar thread to this one. |
