cool... but wait a minute... hmm... i don't think my forehead hits the camera...

based on the test... i am left eye dominant but right handed...

Me either, and if your right eye dominant your right eye dominant. Using your left eye to look through the viewfinder if you are right eye dominant doesn't make much sense. My optometrist, when he was correcting my vision for photography stressed the importance of eye dominance and knowing which eye is the dominant one.

This article goes into some detail about the reasons why you should know your dominant eye and use it..

http://www.shutterbugsource.com/unca...a-photographer

But my optomitrist basically gave me the same advice stated in the article which says..

"I’ve seen discussions going on around the net, and people talking about “switching to using the left eye for stability.” I strongly suggest you figure out your eye dominance first before doing this. If you continually use your non-dominant eye you will cause problems down the road for yourself. If you already are near-sighted or far-sighted and have a prescription to correct this with glasses or contacts - using the wrong eye will make your condition deteriorate as you get older."

I think I would rather trust the advice of my optometrist. After all I pay him to look after the health of my eyes. As the Wikipedia also points out "Ocular dominance is an important consideration in predicting patient satisfaction with monovision correction in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and contact lens wear.

I've worn glasses & contacts for well over 20 years now, and I've never had an optometrist mention anything like that to me. I guess mine have all been deficient. This is seriously the first time I'd ever heard of eye dominance.

(I forgot to add in my earlier post that I'm right handed, too.)

Mine also happens to be a photographer, but you may want to ask yours. If you don't specifically mention a sport or activity's where this is a specific issue they may not think to bring it up. We always spend half my appointments talking about photography, the latest gear, etc.

He wrote me a monovision prescription based on the discussion I brought up with him about photography and the issues I had if I wore mine to correct both eyes for distance. It may be up to you to initiate the conversation about your specific activities.

I go to him with very specific question about glasses, contacts, corrective diopters, what difficulties I have with various tasks, etc.

wow! there a whole lot going on with figuring out which eye to use. i think most people would use their dominant eye anyways regardless. it's probably just like second nature. when you peer into a telescope you don't think twice about which eye to use.

i do wear glasses and contacts and even has astigmatism on both eyes... knowing that i still shoot without any corrective lenses on. i suppose that explains my out of focus and blurry shots...

I used to shoot pictures that way and I managed to focus by adjusting the focus for each pic to the least blurry, but it was a pain. Its a lot easier with contacts.
I don't know how anyone could shoot with glasses. Even my sunglasses get in the way and I have to take them off. Now that I think of it, that's probably a good thing.

R handed, L eye dominant, and use my left eye for the viewfinder (subconsciously, until now at least).

Great thread and test. Thanks!

Right-dominant. Like someone else said, I can't even close my right eye alone.
